Winter is here

It’s safe to talk about the weather, right?
There are in fact, polar views on the weather. Some like cold weather and some don’t. Declaring either preference can be a conversation stopper.

Winter does have it’s fans. I am amazed to see people’s faces light up, at least the ones that like winter, when I ask why they love winter and cold weather. They tell of enjoying the snow, playing in it or skiing, although, some years are better than others for skiing in the Carolinas or for having snow at all in the non-mountain areas. They talk of how they love to bundle up in sweaters and coats. Then there is always “I like the change of seasons.” The latter being somewhat palatable and has a large fan base.

In response to cold weather from non-fans, “you can have it.” I fit more in line with these folks. But it is possibly a matter of genetics and frame of reference, where you’ve lived, and maybe age (as the lower south and southwest part of the country will attest). What is not to like about spring or summer. (Fall means winter is coming and summer coming to an end, so not in the discussion.) Everyone loves spring, that’s a given. It does, at times, get quite hot in the summer though, and there are those insects. But going to a mountain lake or the beach in the summer, or anywhere under a sunny blue sky – unencumbered by all those coats, sweaters and mittens; soak in the rays and the outdoors… add a little sunscreen, it’s all good.
And you can at least get cooled off quickly. When you get cold, damp cold in winter, there is no getting warm for a long, very long while. Yep, I’m a fan of warm weather.

Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it…
